It looks like Commercial Drive is about to get a taste of downtownโs hottest sandwich shop.
Dante Italian Sandwich, the Tuscan-inspired spot that has been drawing massive lineups since it opened across from the Vancouver Public Library last November, is expanding to Little Italy.
Known for its schiacciata sandwiches, Dante has been popping off since day one, often selling out of its fresh-baked creations.
The rise in popularity of Italian sandwich shops across Vancouver over the past year has only fueled more excitement for their expansion.
On September 18, the team teased the big news with a video on Instagram showing โcoming soonโ signage for their new location on Commercial Drive.
Fans of prosciutto, salami, mortadella, and roasted veggie-packed schiacciata wonโt have to trek downtown much longer.
The move makes perfect sense for co-founders Dom and Frank Morra.
They already have deep roots in the neighbourhood with Via Tevere Pizzeria and the revived Donโt Argue Pizzeria slice shop.
Now, theyโre bringing Dante into the fold, right beside Saki Maki in the former Pizza Castle & Indian Curry space.
Commercial Drive has been seeing a lot of changes lately, with longtime staples like Babylon Cafe and Lombardo’s Pizzeria closing their doors while newcomers like Pho 37 have just settled in.
Danteโs arrival adds another layer to the Driveโs evolving food scene, one that ties in naturally with its Italian heritage.
The opening date has not yet been announced, but when it does, expect the same crisp-yet-chewy schiacciata bread and signature sandwiches that put Dante on the map downtown.
Dante Commercial now joins other upcoming Vancouver food spots like Krispy Kreme, SUD SOI, and Jackโs Chowder DT.
