A longtime Japanese izakaya is soon entering a new chapter.

Rajio, who is known for crispy Osaka kushikatsu skewers and late-night energy, announced that its current concept will wrap up on November 25, 2025 after more than a decade.

On Instagram, the restaurant shared a heartfelt message thanking guests for years of support and revealing that it will close from November 26 to December 4 while it prepares to reopen as Rajio Shokudo.

Rajio is part of the Tamaru Shoten Group Group, the team behind some of the city’s most loved Japanese izakayas, including Raisu, Kingyo, New Fuji, and Takenaka.

The spot opened back in 2012.

Their West Side outpost has always been the cozy, slightly rowdy spot near UBC where people go for deep-fried skewers, tapas-style plates, seafood, sweet kushi, and those fun birthday chants that always catch the room off guard.

The shift marks the end of an era, and the comments show exactly how much the place has meant to diners.

For many, Rajio has been the place where dinners turn into long conversations, and where returning feels like part of the tradition.

With the new shokudo concept on the way, Rajio is stepping into something fresh while holding onto the spirit that made it a favourite on the West Side.

The team has not revealed much about the upcoming menu, but given Tomoshoten’s track record, expectations are high.

Vancouver has until November 25 to enjoy the final days of the kushikatsu era before the restaurant closes for its transformation.

Rajio’s upcoming relaunch joins a growing wave of upcoming restaurant openings across Vancouver, including Alberello, Jo’s Italian Deli (Main Street), and Goldie’s Donut & Bakery.
