Social media dance challenges are everywhere, but what happens when one leads to a lion dance inside a gelato shop?
Tutto Belle Il Gelato, the popular West 4th gelato shop known for its viral mochi-wrapped gelato and fried chicken–looking gelato, has launched a fun summer promo that’s got Vancouverites dancing for dessert.
A “Dance for Gelato” challenge.
The rules are simple: head to their shop, bust a move, let it be filmed, and have them post it on their Instagram.
Do that, and you’ll score a gelato of your choice on the house.
Since the challenge started, Tutto Belle’s feed has filled with submissions from dance enthusiasts, casual customers, and even local dance crews showing off their skills.
But the video that really made waves?
An appearance from a Vancouver lion dance team.
Chau Luen Athletics, a legendary lion dance crew with more than 50 years of history in the city, showed up in full costume.
Known for pioneering acrobatics and high jumps in local lion dance, their entry stunned unsuspecting customers.
In the video, the costumed lion dances through the shop’s front entrance, twirls near the counter, then ends off to unroll a bright red banner that reads “HOPE YOU GET RICH” – a classic Chinese blessing.
Meanwhile, wide-eyed Vancouverites can be seen walking in mid-performance, clearly caught off guard in the best way possible.
It’s that kind of unexpected joy that’s made this challenge a local sensation.
With the deadline now extended until the end of July, you’ve still got time to join the fun (and maybe earn your gelato through a few smooth moves).
