Another surprise has hit Main Street’s dining scene.
El Gato Gab Gab, the modern Mexican cocktail bar from the team behind Michelin-starred Published on Main and award-winning Bar Susu, has quietly closed.
The concept first opened back in August 2024, in the former Novella Coffee space, bringing a creative agave-forward experience to Vancouver’s restaurant scene.

It was designed as a vibrant and playful space to celebrate Mexican cuisine and cocktails through a Pacific Northwest lens.
The 3,200-square-foot space reflected the bar’s lively spirit, with hand-painted aquamarine and burnt orange walls, tiled details, and handmade walnut furniture designed to balance boldness and warmth.
However, a year after opening, the restaurant’s signage had disappeared from the storefront.

A quick search online confirms that El Gato Gab Gab is now marked as permanently closed on Google.
And its official website simply reads: “El Gato Gab Gab is taking a long cat nap. Thank you for your support.”

Adding to the mystery, the restaurant’s Instagram account has been wiped and rebranded as a new concept called Mojo Cantina Izakaya.
According to reports by VIA, the same team behind El Gato Gab Gab has shifted the space into a new experiment — one that will rotate concepts and menus every few months.
El Gato Gab Gab’s closure comes as another shift in a year of major changes along Main Street.
Body Energy Club recently took over the former Juice Truck location, Caveman Cafe moved into the old Hellcrust Pizza spot, and C Market Coffee is preparing to open what’s set to become Vancouver’s largest café.
