It looks like another longtime Vancouver restaurant has quietly shut down.
This seems to be a pattern this year, unfortunately.
Lombardo’s Pizzeria & Ristorante, a staple inside the Mercato building on Commercial Drive, has officially closed its doors after nearly four decades.
Known as the Driveโs original wood oven pizzeria, Lombardoโs first opened in 1986 and made history as Vancouverโs first restaurant with an authentic wood-fired pizza oven.
It became popular spot for pizza lovers, serving thin-crust pies, pasta, calzones, and lasagna that earned the restaurant a loyal following.
Lombardoโs even racked up various accolades along the way, including Best Pizza in Vancouver from Vancouver Magazine in 2010, Georgia Straight in 2007 and 2008, and Huffington Post in 2013.
The restaurant went through an ownership change in 2023, with gift cards only being honored until the end of that year.
Things started to go dark after April 2025, as its Instagram page became inactive.
And based on recent Google reviews and tagged posts, the closure appears to have happened quietly sometime in August 2025.
No formal announcement was made about the shutdown, but a new Thai restaurant called SUD SOI has already taken over the space and is preparing to open in October.
For fans of the restaurant, this marks the end of an era on Commercial Drive.
The closure also adds to the growing list of longtime Vancouver restaurants that have shut down this year, including Penang Bistro, Kibune Japanese Restaurant, and Mr. Red Cafe.
