Vancouver’s Beloved Cheeky Filipino Spot Transforms Into New Concept After Successful Pop Ups

Got some semi-bittersweet news!

Shameless Buns has officially announced they are closing their Fraser Street restaurant and transforming it into Jack’s Chowder, their new concept serving up hearty New England-style clam chowder.

Known for their cheeky take on Filipino cuisine, owners Matt and Corvette have decided to shift gears after facing challenges with the restaurant’s performance, despite their food truck business thriving.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram on Sept. 17 2024, they shared, “We struggled. We struggled a lot. There were many difficult nights, a lot of tears and discussions about closing the restaurant…but we decided to throw it all out there and try something new.”

That “something new” is Jack’s Chowder, a project they’ve been developing for months.

Inspired by their love for the New England clam chowder shacks they visited on road trips down the coast, Matt and Corvette decided to bring the East Coast comfort food to Vancouver.

After testing the waters with two successful pop-up weekends, they’re now making Jack’s Chowder a permanent fixture.

Starting on Friday, September 20th, Jack’s Chowder officially opened its doors at the former Shameless Buns location on Fraser Street.

While the restaurant space will still feature the Shameless decor for now, the focus will be on the new menu.

Expect all the clam chowder essentials, including a creamy New England-style chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl, topped with bacon from Crack On food truck and drizzled with lobster oil for that extra touch of indulgence.

There’s also a grown-up take on the classic Filet-O-Fish sandwich, Dill Pickle Popcorn Shrimp, and Salt & Vinegar Fries to round out the seaside-inspired menu.

Despite the switch up of their brick-and-mortar Filipino restaurant, Matt and Corvette assured fans that Shameless Buns’ food trucks will continue to roll around the Lower Mainland, serving favourites like adobo fries and spaghetti lumpia.

The decision to pivot wasn’t easy, but the overwhelming response to Jack’s Chowder has given the duo hope for this new chapter.

“You came in droves. Most of all, you LOVED Jack’s!” they wrote, expressing gratitude for the support they’ve received.

For all the chowder lovers out there, this new spot is set to become a go-to destination.
