It seems like forced closures are becoming more common in Vancouver’s food scene.
Earlier this week, we spotted a notice of termination taped to the doors of Limegee in downtown Vancouver.
One document from Stella Yan Law Office, dated September 8, stated the lease was terminated due to unpaid rent.
A second notice from Consolidated Civil Enforcement BC, dated September 16, confirmed the landlord had ended the lease and required immediate vacant possession of the space.
The amount of unpaid rent is not revealed on the notice.
Limegee first originated in China, where the brand has already grown to more than 70 locations.
The downtown Vancouver store, which opened in June 2024, marked their very first outpost in Canada.
It quickly stood out for introducing locals to the aggressive hand-punched lime tea trend.
This drink style, which is hugely popular in Asia, is similar to muddling but uses fresh limes and ice for a fuller, zestier flavour.
The brand promotes their drinks as a refreshing vitamin C boost and as a lighter, guilt-free option amongst the bubble tea crowd.
The brand had been on an expansion streak earlier this year.
They launched a UBC location in March and later opened a pop up inside Hao’s Lamb Restaurant in Richmond in May.
Both of those spots are still operating.
For now, it looks like their flagship Canadian shop won’t be part of that momentum.
Earlier this year, two other downtown Vancouver food spots also got their lease terminated, missing tens of thousands of dollars in rent.
The downtown Limegee now joins a list of recent Vancouver closures, including Nine Dumplings at City Square, The Greek on Broadway, and Lombardo’s Pizzeria.
