Kitsilano’s Beloved Italian Spot Abruptly Shuts Down With A Heartfelt Goodbye

Fans of authentic Italian cuisine, it’s time for a bittersweet update.

Robba da Matti, a cherished name among Vancouver’s pasta lovers, has announced the closure of its Kitsilano location.

This move also includes the shutting down of its Passaparola Burrata Bar, the city’s first fresh burrata bar.

The reason? A tough yet tender family-related decision.

Robba da Matti started back in 2011 and is known for their heartwarming pasta dishes and inviting atmosphere. This family-run gem quickly became a go-to for both locals and visitors.

With locations throughout Vancouver like in the vibrant Yaletown, Gastown, and the West End, each location mirrored the family’s dedication to authentic Italian dining.

The spot features a date night menu for 2 that we always recommend.

The Story Behind the Closure

February 17, 2024, brought the news nobody wanted to hear.

Citing “unforeseen family problems,” the Robba da Matti team made the heavy decision to close the Kitsilano branch.

“Family always comes first for us,” they shared, emphasizing the difficulty of their choice.

A devastating fire in February 2023 temporarily dimmed its lights and reopened April 2023. The spirit of Robba da Matti remained unshaken until now.

This closure marks an end to a chapter filled with love, community, and exceptional Italian fare.

Before its closure, the Kitsilano location, along with the Passaparola Burrata Bar, stood as a testament to the family’s vision of bringing a slice of Italy to Vancouver.

It was the fourth location under the Robba da Matti name and opened back in May 2022.

While we say goodbye to the Kitsilano outpost, the Robba da Matti family invites us to keep the tradition alive at their remaining locations.

“Our commitment to providing an unforgettable Italian culinary experience remains unwavering,” they assure.
