Vancouver’s Sea House Fish & Chips Is Back—With Chongqing Noodles

After a quiet few weeks, the spiritual successor to Sea House Fish & Chips has officially opened its doors.

As of July 26, Noople Noodle & Dumpling House is now in soft launch mode on Kingsway, taking over the same unit that once housed the iconic 30-year-old Sea House.

We stopped by (anonymously as usual) to see how the space and the food have transformed.

The inside is bright and simple, with red tables, black chairs, and a shiny new digital menu above the counter.

A definite upgrade from the previous interior.

There’s a self-serve kiosk by the entrance too, though it wasn’t in use during our visit.

As for the menu, it’s a mashup of old comfort and spicy newness.

Sea House’s classic fish and chips lives on (yes, that same light, crispy batter), now listed under Noople’s soft opening specials.

And while the regular menu only has the two-piece, the soft opening menu still offers a one-piece version for just $8.

A solid deal, and a nostalgic bite.

The rest of the menu leans heavy into Chongqing-style noodle territory.

You’ll find classics like dan dan, dry green onion, and minced pork with yellow peas, along with spicy wontons, and xiao long bao.

We followed staff recs and grabbed the Mixed Meat Chongqing Noodles, plus the one-piece fish and chips for good old times.

The noodles were flavourful, but small in portion and surprisingly mild in spice – and that’s coming from someone with a low spice tolerance.

The fish and chips is slightly smaller in portion compared to its predecessor (if we look at the image comparison).

Not sure if that is because it is considered a “snack” on the regular menu…

But the fish still is meaty and has that light batter.

The fries are slightly crispier.

We didn’t spot “Grandma” in the kitchen, but the Sea House Facebook page confirmed they’re involved and helped spread the news of the opening.

According to them, Noople is still experimenting – open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner while they dial in their hours, menu, and operations.

Everything from soup stock to dumpling skins is still being tested and refined.

For now, Noople joins the wave of new food spots popping up around town, alongside recent arrivals like Joongwon, Keumsan, and Yum Yai.
