If you fancy Vietnamese drinks and food, there’s a new spot to check out in the heart of Downtown Vancouver.
Known for its robust flavours from a mobile food truck, Nami Vietnamese has just soft-opened its new permanent cafe kiosk.
From Street Cart to Cafe
Nami’s story began with a passionate UBC graduate, Kevin Thach.
His roots in the food industry trace back to his parents’ well-loved Phở Thai Hoa 1 Vietnamese restaurant on Kingsway.
Nami was his brainchild, combining traditional Vietnamese tastes with modern techniques.
It first hit the streets in April 2019 at 700 Granville Street.
The New Nami Cafe Kiosk
The new Nami Cafe sits inside the HSBC building at 885 W Georgia Street. It replaces the previous Scuie kiosk.
Its convenient downtown location, right in the lobby, making for a prime spot for workers to grab a bite and drink at.
Nami’s menu is a delightful mix of traditional and innovative.
Expect your usual lineup of bánh mìs that come in 5 different options: traditional, lemongrass tofu, meatball, pulled chicken, and chopped brisket.
These banh mis do cost more than your usual Vietnamese joints, with the most basic starting at $13.50.
The cafe also surprises with unique pressed bánh mìs – a first in Vancouver. These are baguettes pressed and filled with flavours like kaya, nutella, condensed milk or pate.
Drink-wise, there’s lots on the menu.
From classic coffee and Americanos to Vietnamese Milk Foams (Black Sesame foam, Ube foam, Matcha foam or Pandan foam)and Japanese Oat Tea Lattes, Nami has something that you’ll fancy.
If you’re needing a place to enjoy your Vietnamese coffee and pressed banh mi, the bar seats on the left side of the kiosk remains from the previous Scuie.
