The city’s food scene continues to evolve, and unfortunately, it has mostly been bad news.
And we’ve got more unfortunate news to share.
Another beloved long-time spot is closing its doors.
Today, November 7th, CHAU Veggie took to Instagram to announce their upcoming closure.
Since opening back in May 2011, Maria Hyunh and her mother Chau have been at the forefront of Vancouver’s plant-based culinary scene, offering dishes that honor their Vietnamese heritage.
From savory bowls of pho with a vegan twist to inventive noodle dishes, CHAU Veggie Express has long been a haven for vegetarians, vegans, and anyone seeking a delicious, plant-forward dining experience.
When you consider that traditional Vietnamese cuisine typically cooks with fish sauce and meats like pork and beef, it was a tall order.
But Maria and her mother pulled it off and created vegan versions of classics like Pho and Bún Bò Huế.
Sadly, CHAU Veggie has announced that dine-in service at their Victoria Drive location will cease this coming Sunday, November 10th.
Takeout will still be available at both their locations until mid-January.
The announcement was heartfelt, as Maria shared her family’s plans to reflect on how best to move forward.
Their journey includes traveling to the small Indonesian island where their family landed after fleeing Vietnam in 1978 to honor those they lost along the way.
They expressed deep gratitude to the community that has supported them over the years.
It’s always tough to lose a food spot that has been part of the community for so long.
Make sure to make one last visit to CHAU Veggie before they close up for good.
