Holy Guacamole Mexican Grill on Denman Street appears to have closed.
When we walked by recently, the room was completely cleared out.
A “For Lease” notice was taped to the window of the busy corner unit.
We also found a business listing marketing the address as a “high-profile restaurant opportunity”
The listing describes the space as a gold mine with a fresh three-year lease available.
The same listing confirms that the business being sold is Holy Guacamole Mexican Grill, with 22 seats inside and 12 seats on the patio.
It was one of the few sit-down Mexican spots in the West End, having taken over the legendary “The Spot” diner back in 2019.
The concept was built by Miguel Villalobos Luna and Indalecio Xicohtencatl Lara.
Their story was the definition of the “Canadian Dream.”
Indalecio climbed his way up from being a dishwasher to running his own taqueria before teaming up with Miguel to open this space.
They wanted to bring the comfort food they grew up with to downtown Vancouver.
Locals loved them for their massive portions of nachos, tortilla soup, and enchiladas.
Their breakfast was also a “quiet flex,” serving dishes like Divorced Eggs and machaca that regulars paired with their morning coffee.
They even went big on plant-based options, offering jackfruit fillings and tofu tortas long before it was trendy.
Now, the kitchen is quiet and the room is bare.
The only traffic at 805 Denman is from people peeking in at the empty space on their way to English Bay.
With the business on the market, another operator will almost certainly swoop in soon.
