One of Burnaby’s beloved hidden gems for Xi’an-style noodles and cumin-spiced buns, has quietly shut down.
The Kingsway restaurant shared on Instagram that August 14 marked its final day of service at that location.
The team added that they’re already looking ahead to a new spot, encouraging fans to follow along on Instagram and Rednote for updates.
First opening about five years ago, TerraCotta Boyz quickly became known for its hearty plates and straightforward atmosphere.
The small space was tucked in a Old Orchard Shopping Centre, but the food packed a serious punch.
Cold skin noodles with sesame sauce were often the go-to order, the nutty and creamy sauce clinging to chewy, fresh noodles in just the right way.
Hand-pulled Biang Biang noodles were another staple, wide and springy with a fiery chili kick, while the cumin beef bao stole the show with its fragrant spice and soft bun wrapping around juicy meat.
Lamb pao mo, a dish with flatbread soaked in a light yet flavourful broth, also earned plenty of love for being filling without feeling heavy.
For anyone looking beyond meat, vegetarian-friendly dishes like the cold skin noodles made it an easy place to bring a group.
The owners’ commitment to authenticity stood out, too, with details like vinegar imported directly from China to give their dishes the real Xi’an flavour.
While the doors may be shut for now, the promise of a comeback offers some comfort for fans who have made TerraCotta Boyz part of their eating routines.
This closure adds to a growing list of changes in Metro Vancouver’s dining scene, including the recent shuttering of Pho Extreme Xu Lua, Nine Dumplings, and Milkcow Café.
