[BREAKING] MACU Tea Announces Closure Of Its Richmond Location

It is happening again.

MACU Tea has announced it is closing its Richmond Capstan location starting March 10, 2026, making it the third Metro Vancouver location to shut down in just over two weeks.

The announcement was posted on the @macutea.bc Instagram page with the same format as the previous closures.

“After careful consideration, we will be closing our Richmond Capstan location starting March 10th, 2026,” the post reads. “With deep appreciation for our community’s support, we look forward to what the future may bring. See you soon.”

The comments were immediate and emotional.

“Whyre we closing all the locations?!” one person wrote.

“What?? Longest lines here. How are they closing every location??” another asked.

We first reported on MACU Tea closing its Robson Street and Burnaby Kingsway locations on February 23.

Both had been open for less than two years, with the Robson location opening in June 2024 beside Ramen Danbo and the Burnaby shop launching on Kingsway that same summer.

Now the Richmond location, which sits in Union Square, is following the same path.

The Richmond spot was arguably the busiest of the three.

It was known for drawing long lines, especially during MACU Tea’s peak mango season in the spring and summer, when the brand’s seasonal mango drinks become some of the most sought-after bubble tea orders in Metro Vancouver.

That makes this closure especially surprising.

Mango season is just weeks away.

All three locations that have now closed, Robson, Burnaby, and Richmond, were operated by the same franchisee.

The Kerrisdale location on West Boulevard remains open but is independently owned by a different franchisee and is not part of these closures.

There has been no shortage of rumours circulating online about why the closures are happening.

One popular theory suggested the locations were simply going through renovations and would reopen before summer.

MACU Tea addressed that on our Facebook post following the first round of closures, essentially debunking the renovation theory while hinting that a new location could be in the works.

No further details have been shared about what that new location might be or when it could open.

The repeated “See you soon” sign-off in each closure announcement has kept some fans hopeful, but for now, three of the four MACU Tea locations in Metro Vancouver are gone.

MACU Tea Richmond now joins other recently closed food spots in Richmond like Chef Hung and Meiten at Aberdeen Centre.
