Another longtime Richmond food spot is shutting down, and it is a familiar name for locals inside one of the city’s old-school food courts.
Taikoo Yummy Food (太古美食) in Pacific Plaza’s food court has announced it is retiring.
The last day of business will be April 28.
A pink handwritten notice posted on the shuttered stall reads “We’ll be retiring, last day will be on April 28th, 2026. Thank you all for your loyal support over the years. Best wishes.”
Taikoo Yummy Food has been a longtime fixture in Pacific Plaza for at least 15 years.
The stall is known for its Cantonese comfort food, including Longgang chicken rice noodle soup, whole fried chicken that requires a day’s advance order, and crispy roast pork sold by the pound.
We spotted the closure notice in early March.
The stall is currently closed for vacation from March 9 to 23 and will reopen on March 24 for its final stretch before shutting down for good on April 28.
That gives regulars about five weeks after the vacation break to stop by one last time.
Pacific Plaza’s food court is one of those spots that Richmond locals either grew up with or discovered through totally word of mouth.
It is one of the malls that make you feel like you’ve been transported back in time.
The old school Chinese shows being played on the TVs also helps with that feeling.
Losing a stall like Taikoo Yummy Food hits differently than a trendy restaurant closing.
But this is just natural, as many of these spots which we locals have grown up with are now at the age of retirement.
The closure adds to what has been a rough stretch for longtime Richmond food spots.
Just this month, Richmond has said goodbye to Seto Sushi, Manzo Izakaya, and Little Karp, all of which had been around for years or even decades.
For anyone who wants to say goodbye in person, Taikoo Yummy Food reopens on March 24 and will serve its last meal on April 28.
