Another cozy corner of North Road’s Koreatown is about to go dark.
Bono Cafe, the little Korean coffee and cake spot tucked into Hanin Village next to H Mart in Coquitlam, has announced it is closing for good.
The cafe shared the news in a bilingual notice posted to its Instagram.
“Our shop will be closing its doors on May 31st,” the message read, with the cafe set to close permanently starting June 1.
“Thank you sincerely for all the love and support over the years,” the team wrote.
The notice did not give a reason for the closure.
It did leave one practical reminder for regulars.
Any remaining Bono gift cards need to be used by May 31, and they will not be valid after that date.

For anyone who has not wandered that stretch of North Road, Bono was one of the homier stops in the area’s dense run of Korean cafes and restaurants.
It was known for handmade cakes, Korean snow ice, and specialty lattes made with real fruit.

Listings and early reviews point to the cafe opening around 2018, which would put its run on North Road at roughly seven years.
Over that time it drew a steady following of students and weekend regulars, who came for the plant-filled, study-friendly room as much as the menu.
The space leaned into an earthy, wood-and-greenery look that turned a quick coffee run into a reason to linger for an afternoon.
It was the kind of low-key spot that does not chase hype, which is part of why the closure caught so many regulars off guard.

The cafe also kept long hours, staying open into the evening seven days a week, which made it an easy default for the after-class and late-study crowd.
Bono’s farewell is the latest in a run of closures around North Road and Burnaby, following Arisu Korean BBQ shutting down after a decade and Burnaby losses like Green Basil and Saboten.
