Richmond’s Versante Hotel Closes Its Sustainable Fine-Dining Restaurant After Almost 5 Years

Another Richmond hotel restaurant has slipped out the back door, and most people did not even notice it was gone.

Bruno, the flagship dining room at Richmond’s Versante Hotel, has permanently closed.

The restaurant had actually been dark for more than a month before anyone made it official.

The hotel’s marketing manager confirmed the closure last week to Noms Magazine, and the formal goodbye landed on June 29.

In an Instagram note signed “The Bruno Team,” the restaurant thanked guests for years of visits and celebrations and said it had permanently closed its doors.

The post pointed regulars toward CASK, the hotel’s sister whisky and izakaya bar, which is still open.

Bruno opened in August 2021, right as the Versante welcomed its first guests as Richmond’s debut luxury boutique hotel.

It was a big, ambitious room.

The space ran 6,000 sq. ft, with an 18-seat communal table, a private dining room, and a menu of BC-sourced seafood built around a signature saffron shellfish tagliatelle.

The original concept came from founding executive chef Will Lew, who left the restaurant some time ago, and the opening drew some positive reviews.

So why close a flagship after almost five years?

Because the space is not going to sit empty for long.

The hotel is replacing Bruno with a new concept called OVA, which is set to open on July 1, just two days after the farewell.

What is clear is that the Versante has never been shy about reshuffling its restaurants.

The original Oo La Cha became Acre Through the Seasons, which has since been taken over by Yandoux Patisserie in 2024.

Bruno was the longest-running of the bunch, and now it is the latest to be swapped out rather than simply carried on.

Still, it is a real loss for Richmond’s higher-end dining scene, which does not have many rooms at this scale to begin with.

The timing is tidy, too, with one concept bowing out on a Sunday and the next one slated to open by the middle of the week.

Bruno joins a run of recent Richmond closures, including Broli Kitchen, Hazukido Cafe Plus, and Hight Dragon.
