Richmond has been on a roll lately, with an influx of new supermarkets popping up left and right.
Not quite sure what’s behind the surge, but one thing’s for sure—Richmond residents are getting spoiled for choice when it comes to their grocery options.
The latest addition?
The very first Richmond 88 Supermarket, which just soft opened over the long weekend.
It takes over the old Fabricana unit on Garden City Road, right beside Rothewood Academy.
Back in May, we reported on the “Coming Soon” banner spotted by one of our community members (@yellywyw), and now the wait is finally over.
88 Supermarket, which originally opened in Vancouver back in 2006, is known for its unique blend of offerings.
It sets itself apart from Richmond’s other grocery powerhouses like T&T and Rice World.
While T&T focuses more on Chinese items, 88 Supermarket leans towards Southeast Asian products, boasting a diverse range of Vietnamese and Filipino ingredients.
They pride themselves on carrying one of the largest selections of ethnic foods in Metro Vancouver.
You’ll find a mix of local, North American, and international flavours from the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, China, and beyond.
If you’ve visited their renovated Killarney location, you’ll have a good idea of what to expect at the new Richmond store.
The shelves are lined with an impressive variety of Asian condiments, sauces, snacks, instant noodles, fresh produce, meat, and even a live seafood section.
The 88 Kitchen is also making an appearance here, with affordable eats like $7.50 banh mi, Chinese BBQ chicken, sushi, and combo rice plates with two items.
It’s perfect for grabbing a bite while you’re doing your weekly grocery run.
This new Richmond outpost is the brand’s third and largest location in Metro Vancouver. Garden City’s residents now have an abundance of grocery stores nearby, with Walmart, Rice World, Supermarket 2000, T&T, and now 88 Supermarket all just around the corner.
It’s safe to say the grocery game in Richmond has never been more stacked.
