If you’re a cream puff lover, we’ve got some sad news to tell you…
On September 15, 2024, the award-winning bakery & chocolatier, BETA5 Chocolates, announced they are wrapping up its cream puff era for good and returning to focusing solely on its signature chocolates.
The news, shared via their Instagram, has left many dessert enthusiasts heartbroken.
BETA5, known for its inventive approach to chocolate, launched its first cream puff collection in September 2012.
Over the years, they introduced over 300 unique flavours, turning these treats into a local fav for celebrations and casual indulgence.
In the past few years, they’ve really kicked it up a notch in terms of presentation, with stunning creampuffs like the Totoro collection, the Chinese New Years collection, and even the Fall Food Festival.
So to locals, its shocking that they are deleting an item category that is so well-loved.
But I have a hunch that the cream puffs had a timeline.
That’s because for BETA5, the brand was started with a focus on chocolate.
Even its name was derived from the coco butter crystal structure that gives chocolate its shine and snap when you break it.
In a video interview we did with Adam, the co-owner and executive pastry chef of BETA5, he said that the cream puffs were first made due to its more consistent demand throughout the year compared to chocolate’s seasonal characteristics.
Like many businesses when they started, they were trying multiple things to stay afloat.
They tried cookies, they tried croissants, but it was the cream puffs that struck a chord with the locals and helped stabilize the business.
And now, after a decade, BETA5 has become more than just a local name and likely doesn’t need to rely on cream puffs any longer.
That being said, it is still devastating for locals who have been long fans of their cream puffs.
And that is something Adam and the team knows as well.
So as a heartfelt sendoff, BETA5 is launching the Cream Puff Anthology.
For the next 9 weeks, they’ll bring back 6 fan-fav flavours every week.
And on week 10 – the final week – the final 6 cream puff line will be up to the community through a vote.
However after November 23, 2024, BETA5 will cease making cream puffs.
Don’t miss out on this sweet opportunity to indulge one last time before the cream puffs are gone for good.
