Burnaby Taiwanese Wheel Cake Cafe To Shut Down Soon After 3 Years

Sad news for fans of Taiwanese street food!

Jodeen Cafรฉ, a Burnaby cafe that specializes in Taiwanese wheel cakes, will be closing its doors for good on August 31st.

The cafรฉ made the announcement on Instagram back on July 31st, thanking customers for their support over the years and reminding anyone with a stamp card or e-gift card to redeem them before the final day.

Opened in 2021 by Jordan Lin and his sister, Jodeen Cafรฉ brought a taste of Taiwan to Burnaby.

Specializing in wheel cakesโ€”popular street food snacks filled with sweet or savoury fillings.

From classic custard and red bean fillings to more adventurous options like cheese and corn, Jodeenโ€™s menu offered something for everyone.

The cafรฉโ€™s name, โ€œJodeen,โ€ literally means โ€œsweetโ€ in Taiwanese, a fitting nod to the childhood memories that inspired Jordan to open the shop.

After working in various bubble tea shops, Jordan wanted to bring something new to Burnabyโ€™s food scene, and Jodeen Cafรฉ was born.

Customers could watch the entire process of making wheel cakes through clear plexiglass, making it a fun and interactive experienceโ€”much like watching Hong Kong Bubble Waffles being made.

In addition to their wheel cakes, Jodeen Cafรฉ also served up bubble tea and coffee, making it a go-to spot for a snack or drink, even late into the evening.

As Jodeen Cafรฉ prepares to say goodbye, itโ€™s a reminder of how fleeting and precious these unique spots can be.

If you havenโ€™t had a chance to visit, nowโ€™s the time.

Be sure to stop by before August 31st to enjoy one last wheel cake and bid farewell to this delightful Burnaby cafรฉ.
