Heading to Commercial Drive soon? Well, we’ve got some good news if you are!
Last week, Vancouver’s popular and award-winning Chancho Tortilleria reopened its doors, bringing its authentic Mexican cuisine to the Drive.
After spending five years in Yaletown and building a loyal following, both Chancho and its neighbour, Noah’s Cafe – a popular Japanese tapa spot – were forced to relocate due to a building redevelopment.
While Noah’s Cafe scooted over down to the West End, Chancho has taken over the former Cafe Deux Soleils unit that closed last fall.
Co-owners Ernesto Gomez and Darragh McFeely are excited to begin a new chapter in the legendary space known for its independent spirit and for bringing people together.
Gomez said, “We’re honored to be operating Chancho in this beloved location. With fond memories of my own visits to this location, we look forward to welcoming the community in and building on Cafe Deux Soleils’ legacy as a gathering place for the Commercial Drive community.”
The new location features similar bright and colourful murals to evoke memories of the previous Davie St. location.
With 70 seats plus a front patio, the expanded tortilleria and restaurant can accommodate more diners.
Food wise – you’ll find your old favs and some new items. Guests can enjoy Chancho’s popular tortillas, freshly made on-site with non-GMO heirloom native corn sourced directly from farmers in Mexico.
The tender tortillas can be loaded with juicy carnitas or grilled fresh veggies, all prepared using traditional Mexican techniques.
You’ll also find an upgraded drinks menu featuring natural wines, Mezcals, and new cocktails like Mezcal Jamaica (mezcal, hibiscus, lime) and Batanga (Raicilla, Mexican cola, salt).
