More sad news for Burnaby locals.

Another longtime restaurant is closing its doors.

We spotted a closure notice on the door of S&W Pepper House, the tiny but mighty Sichuan restaurant tucked inside Crystal Mall.

For many, this spot has been a steady presence for over 20 years, offering fiery, no-frills dishes long before Burnaby’s dining scene became what it is today.

Known for bold, spicy flavours, S&W Pepper House built a loyal following with classics like cumin lamb, mapo tofu, spicy eggplant, and their crowd-favourite spicy boiled fish.

The spot wasn’t flashy, but its food drew in generations of diners looking for a reliable Sichuan fix.

According to the notice, their last day will be June 20th.

The message thanks customers for their support over the years, acknowledging and expressing gratitude for the community’s loyalty.

It also shares that a new Korean restaurant will soon take over the space.

The closure adds to the growing list of changes sweeping through Crystal Mall, which has been seeing more and more vacancies recently.

However, there are glimmers of renewal as Hafu Desserts has just soft opened in the mall, and Hei Hei Rice Roll is still set to debut in the food court.
