Downtown Vancouver Cafe Quietly Closes After Nearly a Decade

Another familiar face in Vancouver’s downtown coffee scene has quietly disappeared.

Take Five Cafe, the long-standing coffee shop located on the exterior of CF Pacific Centre along Granville Street, has closed its doors.

The closure happened back in June with little fanfare, and its storefront now sits empty and covered up.

For those unfamiliar, Take Five Cafe is a local brand that got its start in 2003, launched by two brothers with a dream of bringing European-style espresso culture to BC.

At one point, their dream had grown into 10 locations across the province.

But over the years, one by one, those locations shut down.

This particular outpost, which opened in 2015, was the last one standing in Vancouver.

Its closure quietly marks the end of an era for the brand in the city.

The Granville-facing location had been a convenient stop for both locals and tourists alike, especially given its position beside Pacific Centre and near multiple SkyTrain entrances.

While no announcement was made on Take Five’s socials, the shuttering isn’t too surprising given the rising pressures on downtown businesses.

Earlier this spring, another longtime tenant in the area, Meinhardt Fine Foods, also shuttered its downtown grocery outpost.

That unit was later confirmed to be the future home of Aburi Market, an upscale Japanese grocer by the restaurant group behind Miku.

Take Five’s departure joins a growing list of recent food and drink closures around Vancouver’s core, including Grab n Go, Penang Bistro, and the short-lived Bada.
