An iconic Vancouver cafe has sadly shut down.
JJ Bean announced back in October that they were closing down its iconic “Shack” location next to the downtown CBC building.
JJBean Founder John Neate shared the news announcement on the JJ Bean website and the notice was posted at the side of the cafe.
He revealed that the “Shack” was originally opened as a temporary pop-up location for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
But since then – for the past 15 years – it has been a beloved spot not just for CBC staff, but also for downtown works and locals.
Many have enjoyed the charms of this little outdoor cottage cafe, which offered a decent selection of caffeinated drinks, sandwiches, muffins, and cookies.
John goes on in his announcement stating that the shifting downtown dynamics, exacerbated by increased remote work trends, have made the location less viable.
Despite efforts to maintain its appeal, evolving community habits and reduced foot traffic have led to their decision not to renew the lease.
The closure marks the end of an era for the “Shack” as its final day was November 1st.
Those who are looking for the same JJ Bean taste can visit one of their 6 other downtown locations.
