If you live in Burnaby and have been jealous of your Vancouver friends’ lower grocery bills, we finally have good news.
For months, the rumour mill in Burnaby Heights has been spinning about what would anchor the new Valeo development.
Locals whispered that the massive unit on the corner of Hastings and Gamma was destined to be a Nesters Market.
That rumour is officially dead.
We can confirm that the yellow army is arriving.
No Frills has announced they are opening their very first location in Burnaby.
While the brand has multiple spots in Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Surrey, Burnaby has oddly been a “No Frills desert” until now.
The discount grocer is taking over the prime commercial space at 4780 Hastings Street.
It is a win for the neighbourhood.
Known for their aggressively bright yellow branding and “Hauler” culture, the chain is a go-to for shoppers looking to avoid the “frills” of expensive displays in exchange for lower prices.

Some have already spotted the yellow shopping carts being moved into the space.
They aren’t the only new tenant moving into the Valeo building.
Signage confirms that a BMO branch will also be opening alongside the grocery store.
The area is actually going through a bit of a transformation right now.
Directly across the street, the old Pizza Hut unit is currently being converted into a Vegas Donuts.
According to chatter in the community, the new No Frills is slated to open its doors in January 2026.
However, things are moving fast.
The team has already launched their hiring campaign for cashiers and clerks, suggesting the grand opening is imminent.
No Frills Burnaby Heights now joins other upcoming food spots like Panda Pancakes Metrotown and John 3:16 Malaysian Delights Kingsway.
We will keep you posted on the official opening day deals.
Until then, get your loonies ready for the carts.
