Vancouver just got a new French Canadian restaurant and it’s not just any new spot.
Chez Céline, now open at the corner of Fraser & 27th, is the highly anticipated sister spot to the Michelin-starred St. Lawrence.
According to Scout Magazine, the project comes from first-time restaurateurs Margaux Herder and David Lawson, both alums from St. Lawrence, with mentorship and support from J-C Poirier himself.
Officially opened on May 23rd, Chez Céline takes over the former Say Mercy! space.
They transformed it into a cozy, nostalgic room that channels the edgy charm of Montréal, the elegance of Paris, and the communal heart of Québec’s beloved casse-croûtes (think roadside diners slinging poutine and steak frites).
The concept is personal, especially for chef and co-owner Margaux Herder.
Her love for French food started young, literally sparked by a kitchen blow torch and a crème brûlée recipe gifted to her as a kid.
Her culinary journey took her from her family vineyard in Keremeos to the line at St. Lawrence, where she climbed to sous chef and developed a deep reverence for traditional French and Québecois cooking.
At Chez Céline, she’s finally realizing her dream of opening a restaurant of her own, and she’s doing it with heart, heritage, and a very tasty-looking menu.
Expect comforting, no-fuss plates with deeply nostalgic flair.
Some highlights: Escargots on sourdough flatbread with green garlic butter, Croque Monsieur croquettes, Beef carpaccio with anchovies, and Gnocchi with peas and truffle butter.
There’s also poutine, because how could there not be?
And a gooey chocolate cake that promises to tug on your heartstrings.
Inside, the room is warm and beaming, designed to feel like the kind of place where you linger over dinner, share bites, and maybe even order one too many glasses of wine.
For fans of St. Lawrence or anyone missing the communal magic of Québec’s comfort food, Chez Céline is your new go-to.
