Downtown Vancouver Gourmet Grocery Store Shuts Down After 10 Years of Operation

If you’ve recently wandered Granville Street wondering, “Wait… wasn’t there a Meinhardt here?”

Well, you’re not losing it.

Downtown Vancouver’s upscale grab-and-go spot for bougie olive oil, imported snacks, and gourmet pastries has quietly closed its Pacific Centre location.

No big announcement, no final-bite sale – just a quiet little sign taped to the door, breaking the news like a grocery ghosting.

The note confirms that as of April 1st, the Meinhardt Pacific Centre location is permanently closed.

And nope, this isn’t an April Fool’s prank.

This downtown location was a gem for workers needing a quick hot bar meal, a mid-shift sugar boost, or a fancy jar of mustard.

But now you’ll have to trek to their original South Granville store if you’re craving those grab-and-go salads or perfectly packaged gourmet gifts.

In case you didn’t know, Meinhardt’s been around since 1996, when it opened as Western Canada’s first gourmet grocery store.

Founded by Linda Meinhardt herself, the brand became the store for culinary curiosity, fun pantry finds, and that rare balsamic you once saw in a cooking show and never found again.

Eventually, the Jim Pattison Group swooped in, and Meinhardt became part of the Pattison Food Group empire.

So, while Pacific Centre may no longer be there, the legacy of Meinhardt isn’t over.

You can still visit their flagship South Granville store or hit up the Burnaby warehouse for their iconic gift baskets.

Meinhardt now joins other recent Metro Vancouver closures: New India Buffet, Footo Croissant, Babatang Robson, Pizzeria Barbarella, and Meet Fresh.
