Hot pot seems to be the hottest trend in Metro Vancouver’s food scene, with new spots popping up all the time.
(like Chocho coming to Richmond)
But with so many options, the competition is fierce.
Just last month, the beloved Claypot closed after more than a decade.
Now, another we spotted another hot pot spot is bowing out.
Boil It World, the DIY hot pot spot with a retro video game theme on Cooney Road known for its Malatang spice, has quietly shut down.
Boil It World opened in Richmond in 2021, offering a familiar DIY hot pot experience.
Customers grabbed a bowl and tongs, selected ingredients from a wall of proteins, veggies, and carbs, chose their soup and spiciness level, and paid by the pound.
The restaurant cooked everything for you, making it an easy and fun dining experience.
What set Boil It World apart was its All You Can Stacking Challenge.
This social media sensation had customers stacking ingredients as high as possible without any falling. If any ingredient dropped, the game stopped. Sharing one bowl? There was an extra $5 per person.
This challenge led to creative and competitive stacking strategies shared online.
Boil It World originally had three locations: Richmond, Vancouver, and Lougheed.
The Lougheed location closed in February this year, and now the Richmond outpost has also shut down, leaving only the Vancouver location.
The Richmond space is already seeing new life with Quds Halal Noodle House, a noodle shop gaining popularity on Chinese social media.
