Another familiar name on West 4th Avenue has shut down.

Purebread announced that it had closed its Kitsilano location at 1864 West 4th Avenue, with the last day of service on March 29.

The announcement was posted on Instagram, with a message from store manager Danjela and the West 4th team.

“After almost two wonderful years of getting to know you, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our Purebread West 4th location on 29th March 2026,” the post read.

The West 4th location opened on June 1, 2024, making it one of Purebread’s newer spots in Vancouver.

Despite being open for less than two years, the announcement made it clear the location had built a genuine connection with the neighbourhood.

“We’re incredibly grateful to this neighbourhood and to everyone who stopped in for coffee, pastries, and a chat,” the team wrote.

“We loved serving you all. Some once a week, some once a day or even just as a once off!”

The comments section was filled with regulars expressing their disappointment.

One person who came all the way from White Rock said the customer service was “A+” and the vibes were their favourite.

For those worried about losing their go-to Purebread baristas, the team noted that the West 4th staff will still be around at other locations.

Purebread continues to operate across Vancouver, Squamish, and Whistler. In Vancouver, that includes their Kitsilano Broadway location, Mount Pleasant, Gastown, and the YVR Airport shop.

The bakery started in Whistler and has become one of BC’s best-known independent bakery brands, recognized for its rotating selection of baked goods, pastries, breads, and sandwiches.

If you have ever been to a Purebread location, you know the display case is the main event.

The selection changes regularly, and the lineup of pastries, brownies, scones, and savoury items is always deep enough to make choosing just one feel impossible.

The West 4th spot also served coffee and sandwiches, making it a popular stop for both a quick morning pastry and a longer sit-down lunch in the neighborhood.

Less than two years is a short run, but it has become an increasingly common timeline for food spots in Vancouver, especially along competitive retail corridors like West 4th.

Purebread now joins other recently closed food spots in Vancouver, including Pho Q&M, MeeT in Yaletown, and Trees Coffee on Davie.
