Beloved Vancouver Shanghainese Eatery ‘Long’s Noodle House’ Damaged In Next Door Fire

UPDATE: Long’s Noodle House will reopen in Richmond. See details here.

Long’s Noodle House, a neighbourhood gem that has been in operation since 1992 in the Riley Park Main Street area, suffered great damage to their restaurant after a fire broke out next door.

On May 13th Saturday morning, just before 5 am, fire crews responded to a blaze beside the popular Shanghainese restaurant: an empty unit that used to house Vietnamese restaurant Au Petit Cafe and a detached shed.

According to CTV’s aerial footage, the fire caused part of Au Petit Cafe unit’s roof to collapse.

From our walk-around of the aftermath, the back of Long’s Noodle House’s unit – which we assume houses their kitchen – did suffer a massive amount of damage.

Although the front of house appears to be in relatively good condition when glimpsed through the windows, it is likely that the entire restaurant has suffered from smoke and water damage.

As you stroll past the establishment, the unmistakable aroma of charred wood hits your nose.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the fire was contained. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Another well-established eatery, SushiHub, located adjacent to Long’s Noodle House, informed Noms Magazine that they did not incur any damage and are operating without any issues.

Who is Long’s Noodle House?

Established in 1992, Long’s Noodle House has been a staple in Vancouver’s culinary scene and Riley Park-Little Mountain area, specializing in Shanghainese cuisine.

With a menu boasting mouth-watering options such as dim sum, soups, fried rice, and noodles, Long’s has become renowned for its legendary Xiao Long Bao and beef noodle soup.

Since its inception, Long’s Noodle House has been a family-owned business, focusing on quality ingredients and traditional Shanghainese cooking techniques. The result? A loyal following of customers who crave the unique and delicious dishes that only Long’s can offer.

A source close to Long’s Noodle House shared with Noms Magazine that the restaurant’s owner planned to take a vacation following the Mother’s Day Weekend. The owner wanted to ensure their customers could celebrate the special occasion before embarking on their well-deserved holiday.

This comes with the recent string of closures that Main Street has been experiencing.

There are no details available yet regarding when Long’s Noodle House will reopen, but we will keep you informed as soon as we learn more.
