If you have a bag of tater tots sitting in your freezer for an easy weeknight side dish, you need to go check the label right now.
A popular frozen potato snack found in grocery stores across the country has just been flagged for a serious safety issue.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall for specific batches of McCain Tasti Taters brand Crispy Potato Bites.
The recall was triggered after it was discovered that the product may contain pieces of extraneous plastic.

This is not a limited local issue.
The distribution is listed as national, meaning these bags could be in freezers from Vancouver to Halifax.
You need to look for two specific sizes of the Crispy Potato Bites.
The first is the 800g bag with the code 1005286322 and UPC 0 55773 00079 5.
The second is the larger 1.8kg bag with the code 1005286328 and UPC 0 55773 00306 2.
Both affected products bear the code F250226.

McCain is essentially the king of the Canadian freezer aisle.
Founded in New Brunswick in the 1950s, they have become the default choice for frozen fries and potato snacks for millions of households.
Because of how common this brand is, the likelihood of having a bag tucked away in the back of your freezer is high.
Officials are warning consumers not to use, sell, serve, or distribute the affected products.
If you match the codes on your bag with the recall notice, throw the product out immediately or return it to the store where you bought it.
