Downtown Vancouver is about to get a new splash of colour and flavour.

A Noms Mag community member (@purplechives) recently spotted a liquor license application for Miso Taco, the Mexican Japanese fusion restaurant currently thriving on Cambie Street, along West Pender.

The application details a capacity of 60 people indoors and a sidewalk patio for 16.

This marks a return to downtown for Miso Taco, which first opened in Chinatown in June 2023 before moving to Cambie Village last year for a bigger space.

That move allowed owner and chef Diego to fully showcase his vision, with custom murals, quirky anime-inspired decor, and a menu that boldly merges his Mexican roots with his love of Japanese culture.

The brand did tease about the new spot earlier this summer, but both its Instagram profile and website now include โ€œDowntown Coming Soon,โ€ confirming the expansion.

Interestingly, this wonโ€™t be Miso Tacoโ€™s first attempt at expanding beyond Vancouver.

Back in August 2024, they opened a location in Burnaby, but that shop appears to have quietly shut down.

If their Cambie location is any clue, downtown diners can expect playful design choices like Sailor Moon or JoJoโ€™s Bizarre Adventure playing on big screens, sake bottles turned into light fixtures, and Diegoโ€™s own anime-inspired merch line.

On the food side, Miso Taco has already built a fan base with dishes like birria tacos paired with Indomie ramen, kimchi nacho fries, and a sizzling cheesy mushroom plate.

Their drink menu stands out too, with options like the Matcha Martini and Miso Margarita, while desserts like churro mochi have quickly become customer favourites.

The new restaurant will open on the ground floor of the B6 tower, a 32-storey office building in Coal Harbour.

While no opening date has been announced, the liquor license application and online teasers suggest it might be pushing for a Winter arrival.

Once open, the new Miso Taco will join a growing lineup of anticipated downtown spots including TOUK, theVenti, and Doe Coffee Strathcona.
