Exciting (but sad for oyster lovers) changes are on the horizon for foodies in Vancouver!
Smitty’s Oyster House on Main Street is closing its doors this weekend after 2.5 years.
The restaurant will be revamped by the same owners to become Anthem Sound Lounge, which is set to reopen on November 14.
Smitty’s has been a beloved Mount Pleasant spot for oyster enthusiasts and casual diners alike, serving fresh seafood in a welcoming atmosphere.
As the curtain falls on this popular venue, the owner/operator Matt Thompson (Park Drive, Cannibal Café, Bingo Taco, Alphabet City) is ready to embark on a new journey.
After overcoming significant health challenges, including a liver transplant two years ago, he is eager to infuse his passion into this reimagined space.
Smitty’s will host a celebratory send-off from October 24-27, featuring a week-long happy hour and an exciting oyster shucking competition with local experts on Sunday at 6 p.m.
Anthem Sound Lounge aims to capture the essence of Mount Pleasant’s vibrant nightlife with a fresh menu that embraces both food and music culture.
The lounge will offer an array of creative cocktails and craft beers, paired with casual snacks and share plates.
A standout feature will be Thompson’s popular Anthem Pizza, a creation born during the pandemic that gained a loyal following.
“We’ve had a great run and I thank the team at the OG Smitty’s in Gibsons for being such fantastic partners during my recovery,” Thompson shared.
“I’m looking forward to getting back to my roots as an operator and adding a new feel to this legendary space.”
The interior of Anthem Sound Lounge is set to be cozy and inviting, reflecting the lively spirit of the neighbourhood.
With an emphasis on comfort, the redesigned space will feature live DJs to enhance the ambiance, making it an ideal spot for gatherings with friends and family.
Thompson is committed to creating an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and enjoys good food, drinks, and music.
As the community prepares to bid farewell to Smitty’s, excitement brews for the upcoming transformation.
