A late-night BBQ restaurant in Richmond has been ordered to shut its doors after health inspectors found pest infestation and unsanitary conditions inside.

Mr. Beigai BBQ Restaurant at 140-8500 Alexandra Road received a closure order from Vancouver Coastal Health on March 9, 2026.

The order was issued under Section 31 of the Public Health Act and cites two violations under the Food Premises Regulation.

The first is pest infestation under Section 26. The second is unsanitary conditions under Section 17.

We spotted the closure notice taped to the restaurant’s front door on March 11.

The order lays out seven corrective actions the restaurant must complete before it can reopen.

The restaurant must close to the public until all required actions are finished and Vancouver Coastal Health has authorized it to reopen.

It must mitigate all pest activity within the premises and thoroughly clean and sanitize all food contact surfaces, food equipment, floors, walls, and ceilings in the food production area.

The order also requires the restaurant to repair and replace a refrigeration cooler next to the two-compartment food preparation sink.

All damaged walls in the kitchen must be repaired, and any holes greater than one quarter inch must be sealed to prevent pest harborage.

The restaurant must also contact a pest control company to provide increased pest control measures to eliminate pest activity on site.

Once all corrective actions are complete, the restaurant is required to contact Richmond Health Protection for a re-inspection before it can serve customers again.

Mr. Beigai BBQ, also known by its Chinese name 北丐先生野馄饨烧烤, is a Chinese BBQ chain that specializes in northeast Chinese-style barbecue skewers, wonton soup, and malatang.

It first opened its North American flagship store back in 2023.

It is not yet clear when Mr. Beigai BBQ will reopen.

The timeline depends on how quickly the restaurant can complete all required corrective actions and pass a follow-up inspection from Vancouver Coastal Health.
