Shanghai-style buns are officially back at Aberdeen Centre, but things aren’t exactly how you remember them.
Last month, we reported that a new stall called Shanghai Winning Baozi was preparing to take over the empty Shanghai Morning unit in Richmond’s iconic food court.
Now, the newcomer has fully opened for business.

Their menu lineup will feel familiar to anyone who used to frequent Shanghai Morning.
You’ll find pork soup dumplings, pan-fried pork buns, sesame buns, cabbage buns, and green onion pancakes, along with comforting sides like millet porridge, wonton soup, and chilled cucumber salad.
On our visit, we grabbed an order of the pan-fried pork buns, which were decently tasty with a light golden sear and juicy filling.
It has been way too long since we’ve had Shanghai Morning for us to be able to say whether Winning Baozi lives up to the taste or not.
However, the big caveat was the wait.
From ordering to first bite, the entire process took 33 minutes.
A staff member clarified to us that Shanghai Winning Baozi is not related to Shanghai Morning, even if their offerings feel like a spiritual continuation.
This stall is under a different owner and chef, and from the sound of it, they’re still ironing out their kitchen flow.
The opening comes during a particularly eventful time for Richmond’s food court scene.
At Aberdeen Centre food court alone, Max’s To Go is prepping to move into the former Potato Corner stall, a new Egyptian BBQ brand is replacing Cherry’s Tofu House, and renovation work is visibly progressing in the former arcade zone.
