Burnaby’s Metrotown area just got a new spot for Lanzhou noodles and halal comfort food.
Hui Flavor soft opened in late September, taking over the former Terracotta Boyz space in Old Orchard Shopping Centre (across Crystal Mall).
The new restaurant brings the bold, rich flavours of the Xinjiang region of China to the heart of Burnaby, with a menu centered around freshly hand-pulled noodles and halal dishes.

Inside, the space is small and cozy, featuring a simple layout with white tables, yellow booth seating, and an open view of the kitchen where the chefs hand-pull noodles right before your eyes.
The aroma of simmering broth fills the air, giving the restaurant an inviting, homey vibe.

When we first tried to visit on the weekend, there was a massive line and a 40 minute wait.
Even when we returned for a late weekday lunch around 2 p.m., the room was still packed, with nearly every table occupied.
We managed to snag a seat and even shared it with another diner.
The signature here is the Hand Pulled Lanzhou Beef Noodle Soup.
Each bowl features a flavourful broth paired with slices of tender beef and freshly stretched noodles.
Unlike machine-cut noodles, the strands vary in shape and thickness, a sign that they’re made by hand.

We went for the traditional version with chili oil, and it hit the spot with the right balance of spice and richness.
The menu also includes options like Pickled Cabbage Beef Noodles, Braised Beef Noodles, and Dry-Fried Noodles for those who prefer something a bit heartier.

For rice lovers, the Lamb Pilaf stands out as a comforting Xinjiang classic, while the cold dish selection features Chinese Tea Eggs, Jiaoma Chicken, and Braised Five-Spice Beef Shank.
At the moment, Hui Flavor is still in its soft opening phase and currently accepts only cash or e-transfer payments.
Hui Flavor now joins the growing list of new Burnaby food spots like XISHI, Galbi Kbbq Gilmore, and 2025 Cafe.
