New Richmond Cafe Brings Minimalist Coffee and Home Goods Together

Richmond’s coffee scene just got a little more refined.

Prunus, a new hybrid coffee and home goods shop, has quietly soft opened at the Prima building across from Richmond City Hall.

But it’s not your typical cafe.

The space is a visual breath of fresh air.

Inside, everything feels intentional.

Sharp lines, muted tones, and a modern minimalist layout that wouldn’t look out of place in a design magazine.

Along one wall, sleek floating shelves display a curated collection of plates, cups, bowls, and glasses sourced from Japan and China.

During the soft opening, these pieces aren’t available for purchase yet, as owner Ron shared he’s still finalizing pricing due to how difficult some of the items are to obtain.

Ron, who opened the shop with his wife, told us that this is his first coffee shop and that getting it off the ground came with plenty of challenges.

But looking around the finished space, it’s clear he’s proud of the outcome, and rightfully so.

The menu at Prunus keeps things simple and focused, mirroring the clean aesthetic.

Coffee offerings include the classics like Americano, Latte, and Cappuccino, while the pastry selection is limited to a few Le Pont cakes, elegantly displayed at the counter.

Prices are modest, with baked goods around $3.50 and drinks under $8.

We tried a latte during our visit, served in one of the ceramic mugs that line the shelves.

Even the presentation matched the minimalist vision.

The drink arrived on a small concrete tray that added an industrial touch.

Seating wise, there’s only 3 chairs and a single sofa chair.

So this isn’t a spot to do any work at or lounge for a long time.

As we visited in the evening, the bright, gallery-like lighting made the space glow even more intensely, enhancing its modern charm.

For now, Prunus is open from Wednesday to Sunday and closes at 6PM.

It’s a calm, thoughtful addition to Richmond’s growing coffee culture, offering a slightly different kind of experience.

Prunus now joins other recently opened Richmond spots like Momo Tanghulu, Don Noodle, and Sushi Lovers.
