After a short delay, Burnaby Heights’ highly anticipated ice cream shop has officially opened its doors.
And locals are already scooping it up!
Crema, the Latino and Asian-inspired ice cream brand, soft opened on July 11 at the corner of Willingdon and Hastings.
They take over a former hair and makeup studio.
It’s the first-ever storefront for founders Heidi and Joe, who’ve been serving up unique, cross-cultural flavours from their signature mini ice cream truck since 2019.
What started as a birthday ice cream cake tradition turned into a full-blown business rooted in their Peruvian and Taiwanese heritage.
Each flavour is handcrafted with natural ingredients, locally sourced when possible, and free from the cloying sweetness and heaviness that usually comes with a scoop.
For their first month, Crema isn’t playing it safe.
The soft opening menu includes inventive offerings like Wild Mint Stracciatela and Gansito, a tribute to the iconic Mexican snack cake featuring strawberry swirls, chocolate-covered cake chunks, and condensed milk ice cream.
There’s also Guava Cheesecake, made with pink guava ribbons, cheesecake base, and crushed Maria cookies, and the vegan-friendly Coco Pandan Passion, which combines coconut milk, fragrant pandan, and tangy passionfruit sorbet.
Some other flavours available include Horchata, Salted Caramel Hojicha, and Matcha Strawberry Fog.
If you’ve ever wanted your tastebuds to travel across Latin America and East Asia in one lick, this is the place to do it.
And for those who aren’t nearby Burnaby, Crema’s mini ice cream truck will be popping up every weekend at McArthurGlen Outlet in Richmond until mid-September, so you don’t have to miss out.
Crema now joins the growing lineup of new Burnaby dessert destinations, including Benzo Cafe, Hafu Dessert, and Chen, adding even more flavour to the city’s booming sweets scene.
