A kitchen that has been simmering beef noodle soup in the same Burnaby strip mall since 1998 is finally crossing the river.
Red Note users spotted the orange signage first: No.1 Beef Noodle Kitchen is up at 4611 No. 6 Road in Richmond.
The new unit sits right beside the Shoestring Cafe, taking over a space that last held an Indian restaurant.
The original No.1 Beef Noodle has anchored a strip mall on Willingdon Avenue for 28 years.
And if you went to BCIT, you’ve likely had a meal at No.1 Beef Noodle.
The namesake Taiwanese beef noodle soup headlines, alongside popcorn chicken, braised pork belly on rice, sizzling plates, and bubble tea, with grass jelly and sweet tofu on the dessert side.
The noodle list runs deeper than beef, too, with pork, lamb, chicken, seafood, and vegetarian bowls on the Burnaby menu.
And the shop keeps long hours for a noodle house, open until 11pm most nights and later on weekends.
Nothing has been announced about the Richmond menu, though the Burnaby lineup is the obvious template.
There is no opening date yet either.
The address is a bet on a different Richmond.
No. 6 Road is office-and-warehouse country, a long way from the Golden Village food crawl, which makes a hot bowl of beef noodle soup very good news for the workers out there.
The neighbour is the proof the block can pull people in.
The Shoestring Cafe next door has drawn destination diners to this exact complex for years, with regulars driving in from across the city for its dinners.
It runs a dinner-only schedule in a room that seats about 40, and it still fills.
If even a fraction of that traffic wanders one unit over, the new No.1 Beef Noodle will be just fine.
No.1 Beef Noodle joins other upcoming Richmond openings including Happy Lamb Hot Pot on Alexandra Road, Pho Net Viet at Aberdeen Centre, and Molly Tea at Richmond Centre.
