New Chinese Boil-and-Sizzle Concept To Open In Richmond’s Aberdeen Centre

There’s something new coming to Aberdeen Centre!

We spotted signs for a new brand called Taoke moving into the former Chef Hung unit on the second floor of Aberdeen Centre.

For those who missed it, we shared that Chef Hung permanently closed its Aberdeen Centre location in February after more than 16 years in business.

The restaurant had been one of the longest-running tenants on the second floor and served as the brand’s North American flagship when it launched in 2009.

Now the unit is wrapped in black construction signage with gold lettering that reads “Taoke Boil and Sizzle” along with the Chinese characters 饕客 and the tagline “不止于饱,” which roughly translates to “more than just full.”

According to the sign, the name Taoke draws its origin from the ancient mythic beast Taotie, recorded in the Classic of Mountains and Seas.

“Tao” represents the pursuit of ultimate flavour, while “Ke” means to welcome guests from all directions.

The “Boil and Sizzle” in the name suggests the restaurant will focus on a hot pot or boil-and-grill style of dining.

No official menu has been revealed yet, but the branding leans heavily into Chinese culinary heritage and philosophy.

This news comes after the recent influx of closures in Aberdeen Centre, with Garaku booted out for missed rent, Meiten quietly shutting down, and Chef Hung departing the mall.

Taoke now joins other upcoming food spots in Richmond like Marugame Udon, Oakberry, and One Cafe Lansdowne.
