New Traditional Korean Cast Iron Lid BBQ Grill Restaurant Is Opening In Richmond

Richmond’s food scene has been on fire lately, with new spots popping up all over the place.

If you remember back in May 2024, we shared the news that Claypot, the beloved OG hot pot spot, closed down after 12 years of service.

Ever since, there’s been a lot of buzz about what would take over that space—and now we finally have our answer.

We spotted that the signage for GOODNINE Korean BBQ has officially gone up, and we’re getting a clearer picture of what’s coming.

According to their Instagram page, GOODNINE will offer Korean BBQ with a traditional cast iron pot lid grill, a nod to the authentic Korean way of cooking prime K-BBQ cuts.

What makes this grill different from others?

The lid typically has a dome or slight curve that allows fat and grease to flow down to the edges while the food cooks.

For dishes like Samgyeopsal (thin strips of pork belly), the lid ensures even charring and a perfectly crispy exterior.

Back in the day, when meat was considered a rare luxury, it was often cooked on the lids of these cauldrons—a tradition born in tough times.

These lid grills are something that sets GOODNINE apart, tapping into tradition to offer something uniquely delicious.

According to the signage, GOODNINE will also offer coffee, lunch, drinks, and even happy hour, making it a versatile addition to Richmond’s bustling Alexandra Road.

One of the staff let us know that they’re targeting an opening date around December 6th.

And while GOODNINE is gearing up to bring their traditional K-BBQ flair, they’re not the only game in town.

Seattle’s Bellwether is also set to open just steps away, offering an AYCE Korean BBQ experience.
