A mochi donut shop on Kingsway just announced it is transforming into something different.

Ikoi Donut has revealed that it is transitioning into Truffle Donut, a Japanese raw donut chain with over 25 locations across Japan.

The announcement came through the shop’s Instagram, where they shared that they are officially partnering with the renowned Japanese brand to bring an entirely new donut experience to Vancouver.

This will be Truffle Donut’s first location in Canada.

Truffle Donut started in Tottori Prefecture in 2022 and has quickly expanded across Japan, with additional stores opening in Taiwan and Thailand in late 2025.

The concept centers around what they call “nama” donuts, which translates to “raw” or “pure” in Japanese.

Similar to how nama chocolate refers to a moist, melt-in-your-mouth texture, nama donuts are all about softness and freshness.

They use a pumpkin kneaded dough made from high-quality Japanese flour with a special water ratio and go through a long, low temperature fermentation process.

The result is a donut with an extremely thin outer layer from frying, while the inside stays as soft and silky as pudding.

If mochi donuts are known for being chewy, nama donuts are all about being cloud-like and airy.

Their flagship item is the Truffle Plain Donut, which is served freshly made and features a rich truffle aroma with a balance of salty and sweet.

The brand says they are particular about their cream too, pursuing the perfect balance of sweetness with the dough.

On the menu you’ll find cream filled donuts like strawberry, chocolate, matcha, and more.

In Japan, the shop has some seasonal flavours like Lemon Yogurt, Peach Tea, and Orange Fromage.

On Red Note, the shop shared that the Japanese team will be arriving near the end of the month, which suggests the new Truffle Donut could be opening soon.

No official opening date has been announced yet, but based on the timeline it looks like it could happen within the next few weeks.

It is an interesting pivot for the space, going from one Japanese donut concept to another, but with a completely different texture and approach.

Vancouver’s donut scene has recently been dominated by Korean brioche donuts via Mello and Goldie’s.

Now, Truffle Donut will be bringing its raw donuts to the scene.

Truffle Donut joins a growing list of new food spots heading to Vancouver, including Field and Social South Flats, Obanhmi Olympic Village, and Alfa Tea Robson.
