Taiwanese Bubble Tea Chain Quietly Closes Burnaby Location After 6 Years

The city is filled with bubble tea chains.

So with the fierce competition and the gloomy economic state of the food industry, some bubble tea shops aren’t fairing so well.

Late last year we found that Truedan (previously Jenjudan) quietly shut down 2 locations.

Well on one of our walks around Metrotown, we found that Onezo Tapioca on Kingsway has quietly shut down recently.

This was the first Onezo in BC, which opened back in 2018.

Onezo Tapioca was not just another bubble tea shop; it was a pioneer in the industry, proudly bearing the title of the world’s first to offer on-site made tapioca balls.

That means you can literally see a staff prepare and make the tapioca’s fresh every day.

And beyond the usual bubble tea and slushes, Onezo offered different flavoured tapioca like taro, cactus, strawberry and more.

They even had a Pokemon-shaped pearl as one of their promotions.

The closure of the Kingsway location marks the end of an era for Onezo. It is a shame as the Metrotown area is continuing to see more and more quality food joints make its way to the neighbourhood.

For instance – Vancouver’s Bun Cha Ca Hoang Yen is set to open a block away soon.

For fans of Onezo and their fresh pearls, the West Broadway location remains.
