Exciting news for tea enthusiasts in Richmond!
Paragon Tea Room, a beloved local gem, is opening a second location.
Known for its innovative tea lattes and commitment to quality, Paragon has been a staple in Vancouver since its humble beginnings in April 2019.
Now, the highly rated tea room is bringing its unique offerings to Richmond, taking over the space previously occupied by Faebrew (beside Parker Place), which closed late last year.
Paragon Tea Room, co-founded by Michelle Cheung and Nelson Poon from Hong Kong, blends the traditional with the modern, embodying a culture of inclusion, experimentation, and openness.
Michelle shared with Noms Magazine her motivation for expanding to Richmond, explaining, “Richmond has evolved into a melting pot, becoming a gathering place for both locals and visitors. The warm, culturally diverse, and vibrant energy makes it a great place for Paragon to grow and continue innovating in the world of tea.”
Since its inception, Paragon has made bold moves, such as phasing out dairy and making oat milk the default option.
Their teaspresso-based tea lattes, including the top-selling hojicha oat misto, have been a hit among tea (and coffee) lovers.
The teaspresso machine, which uses high pressure to extract a concentrated tea shot, is at the heart of their offerings.
This innovative brewing method enhances the flavour, mimicking traditional Chinese kung fu tea ceremonies.
In 2022, they had to relocate from their cozy spot by the Cambie Bridge to a smaller unit in Cambie Village.
This move allowed them to create a moodier, more intimate space, expand their team for more pop-ups and events, and dedicate themselves to teaching customers how to make tea lattes at home.
The new Richmond location promises to bring exciting offerings and unique menu items.
Michelle hinted at collaborations with local businesses, ensuring each Paragon location offers something special.
“We are always looking for ways to innovate and bring something special to each of our locations, making each communi-tea unique,” she shared.
The ambiance at the Richmond outpost will feature more natural lighting and a wall inspired by the Paragon “perfectly imperfect” gem logo.
This design element will remind both the team and customers of the brand’s philosophy of embracing imperfection while striving for improvement.
The home café merchandise area will be more spacious, allowing for a more personal shopping experience.
Seating capacity will also increase to around 12-15 seats, compared to just nine at the Cambie location.
As for their popular YVR pop-up, Michelle assured that it will likely be extended until at least the end of the year.
The tea oasis concept has been well-received by the airport community and tourists alike, offering a delightful tea time experience on behalf of Vancouver.
While the exact opening date for the Richmond location is still tentative, Michelle is hopeful for an August debut.
