Sad news for Vancouver’s plant-based community.

Another beloved plant-based spot has just closed its doors.

MeeT in Gastown announced on November 5 through Instagram that it has made the “heartfelt decision” to close its location after nearly a decade of operation.

In the post, the team expressed deep gratitude to their community for the meals, memories, and support shared over the years, saying, “Your support has meant everything to us.”

The closure marks the end of an era for the restaurant, which opened on February 2016.

Tucked away in the courtyard at 12 Water Street, the Gastown location was the second in the MeeT family, following the original MeeT on Main, which opened in 2013.

The group also operates MeeT in Yaletown, which will remain open.

The news follows closely after the closure announcement of MiLa, another acclaimed plant-based restaurant in downtown Vancouver that is shutting down this month.

It’s a double blow for those who love vegan comfort food in the city.

Founded by longtime friends and industry veterans Linda Antony, Ivo Staiano, and Jason Antony, MeeT was created to reimagine comfort food through a plant-based lens.

Their mission was simple yet impactful to make plant-based eating approachable, affordable, and welcoming to everyone, veggie or not.

For nearly ten years, MeeT in Gastown embodied that vision, serving hearty veggie burgers, mac and cheese, and other crowd favourites in a cozy, inclusive space that became a go-to for vegan comfort food.

Fans can still find MeeT’s comforting dishes at their Main Street and Yaletown locations.

MeeT in Gastown now joins other recently closed Vancouver food spots, including Cafe & Life Co. Cambie, Floata Seafood Restaurant, and Jitters Caffe.
