For months, there have been whispers and rumors about the fate of Long’s Noodle House, the beloved Shanghainese restaurant that’s been a staple in Vancouver since 1992.
Fans have been eagerly waiting for any news, especially after they quietly disappeared from Admiralty Centre food court.
Well, the wait is finally over!
We’ve spotted a Long’s Noodle sign at Garden City in Richmond, confirming that the popular spot is making a comeback with a new dine-in location.
Long’s will be taking over the space previously occupied by Boom Chicken, a Chinese burger joint, right beside Liu Yi Shou and Daan Go Cake Lab.
This is HUGEEEE news for Richmond locals and fans of Shanghainese cuisine across Metro Vancouver.
If you’re not familiar with the whole Long’s Noodle House saga, here’s a quick recap:
Since 1992, Long’s has been serving up some of the best Shanghainese food in town, with standout dishes like their legendary Xiao Long Bao and beef noodle soup.
We personally think their XLBs are one of the best in Vancouver.
But in May 2023, disaster struck when an early morning fire damaged both Long’s unit and the adjacent Au Petit Café, leaving many heartbroken.
In a surprising move, Long’s made a brief return in October 2023 as a food court stall at Richmond’s Admiralty Centre.
The return of their popular Xiao Long Bao had fans lining up, but the comeback wasn’t without drama.
After the fire happened, Long’s owner briefly worked at another Shanghainese food stall in Admiralty Centre.
When Long’s opened their own stall in the same food court offering similar items, tensions flared (more in this report by Richmond News).
Eventually, Long’s abruptly closed the food court spot at the start of summer.
Another shop, oddly still offering similar items, quickly replaced them.
With their Admiralty Centre stint behind them, fans were left wondering where Long’s Noodle House would pop up next.
Speculation about a Blundell location started emerging but nothing came to fruition
But now with the sighting of their new signage on Garden City, it’s clear that Long’s is ready for a fresh start.
Although there’s no official opening date yet, the news of Long’s Noodle House returning with dine-in service—and even a parking lot—is a huge win for Richmond’s food scene.
