Richmond Asian Fusion Restaurant Closes After 8 Months, Pho 37 Takes Over Its Former Location

Richmond’s food scene has been buzzing with activity lately, and Union Square Shopping Centre is at the heart of a lot of it.

The plaza has seen a whirlwind of changes recently, and today, we’ve got another surprising update.

This one’s a bit of a head-scratcher—you’ll see why in a moment.

From 2018 to 2023, Pho 37 occupied the #101 corner unit at Union Square, and it quickly became a fav among Richmond locals.

Known for its signature Tuan’s Special Beef Noodle Soup, Pho 37 built a loyal following.

In August 2023, they decided to expand their seating capacity by threefold and moved into the larger, empty Teamlabs unit just down the plaza.

After Pho 37 vacated #101, the space was taken over by B House Restaurant in November 2023.

B House, which had already made a name for itself on Commercial Drive, brought its blend of Far-East flavours and West Coast flair to Union Square.

The restaurant introduced brunch classics like egg bennies to the plaza.

But now, just 8 months later, B House has quietly disappeared from the plaza.

During our latest patrol of the area, we noticed something unexpected—the #101 unit has morphed back into Pho 37!

Yep, you read that right.

The familiar Pho 37 signage is back up, and when we peeked through the window, we saw tables set with the usual pho condiments and sauces.

According to the staff, it turned back to Pho 37 last month.

This means Pho 37 now has two locations in Union Square, just steps away from each other, giving off serious Big Way on Kingsway vibes.

It seems B House’s Richmond outpost didn’t quite work out.

As the Richmond location has been scrubbed off from their official website and hasn’t been mentioned on their social media in recent posts.

For those who aren’t fans of long lines, this might be good news—the smaller #101 Pho 37 location seems to be flying under the radar for now and is much less crowded than its larger sibling down the block.

Though this change may not seem significant compared to the other transformations at Union Square—like Snack King Eatery replacing Deer Garden and HeyTea moving into Blackball’s old unit—it’s still a noteworthy shift in a plaza.

Don’t forget to share this with your pho-loving friends who might appreciate a quieter spot to enjoy their bowl!
