The mystery surrounding Richmond’s newest bakery is finally over.
Back in November, we spotted “Baking Factory” putting up signage at the former Yummy Restaurant space on Cambie Road.
At the time, their website was confusingly filled with AI-generated images, leaving everyone guessing what they actually sold.
We walked by last weekend and found the shop has quietly launched its soft opening.

Currently, it is operating as a takeout-only spot while renovations in the back kitchen are finalized.
Instead of a full menu, a large table of freshly baked goods is set up by the entrance for guests to browse.
The first thing you will notice is the size.
The pastries here are definitely larger than what you typically find at other local bakeries.

On the owner’s recommendation, we tried the “Bombshell”.
It looks like a massive madeleine but eats like a soft, buttery sponge cake.
Inside, it is filled with a sweet “dry custard” (a milky, crumbly paste) and raisins.

We also snagged their popular Hokkaido Milk Bread with cream filling, which was also a hit with the family.

The glass display case at the back stocks more delicate items like cake slices and cream puffs in flavours like raspberry and matcha.
On a return visit, we picked up a Sesame Bun, which surprised us with a delicious red bean filling.

And compared to some other bakeries in the area, the prices at Baking Factory were quite affordable.

Despite not having a dedicated “Red Note” (Xiaohongshu) account yet, the owner told us they are already seeing repeat customers.
And based on the taste, we see why.
There is still a WIDE selection for us to taste, considering how many unique items they have, but we’re impressed so far.

If you want to check it out, you need to time it right.
Right now, they are only open from 2 PM to 6 PM and are closed on Tuesdays and Sundays.
The owner shared that the full dine-in service and cafe beverages are expected to launch closer to the end of the month.
This opening adds another strong bakery cafe to the neighbourhood.
Baking Factory joins a list of recent Richmond arrivals, including % Arabica, Pokey Okey, and Yang’s Dumpling.
