If you commute through Metrotown Station, you have probably walked past the papered-over windows right next to Chung Chun Rice Hot Dog a recently.
But recently, new signage has popped up that is making commuters stop and look twice.
A new concept called Chill Plate is moving into the unit at 4408 Beresford Street, and it is making some big promises.

The wording is vague enough to make you stop and read it twice.
The signage describes the upcoming spot as an “all-inclusive foodie market” and a “social canteen.”
For a high-traffic transit hub that is mostly filled with “grab-and-go” bubble tea and fried snacks, the idea of a “social canteen”, a place designed for meeting up and hanging out, is a refreshing change of pace.

However, there is a bit of a puzzle here. The unit itself isn’t particularly large.
Calling a compact storefront a “Foodie Market” is ambitious.
Based on the footprint and the “all-inclusive” branding, we predict this will likely be a mini-food hall concept, several small vendors sharing a single kitchen and communal seating area, rather than a sprawling marketplace.
Don’t expect to eat here next week. The signage also reveals that the team is currently offering leasing opportunities and actively seeking investors.

This suggests the concept is still in the “formation” phase.
They have the space and the vision, but they are likely still filling the roster of food vendors.
Right now, there is no website, no Instagram, and no official opening date to fill in the blanks.
If done well, that kind of setup could work nicely here, especially for people who want options without committing to a full sit-down meal.
For now, Chill Plate lives entirely in the promise stage.
We will be watching closely as more details surface.
Until then, this is one Metrotown opening that feels worth keeping an eye on.
Chill Plate joins upcoming Burnaby food spots like Money Food Ent., Matcha Tea Lab, and No Frills Heights.
