If you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine, you’re in for a treat! SYU Japanese Cusine & Sushi Bar has recently opened its doors in Richmond, bringing high-end Japanese food experience to the Oval area.
The story of SYU began when one of the co-founders, a passionate lover of Japanese food and culture, decided to bring his vision to Canada after shortly immigrating here.
Having previously opened the first high-end Japanese restaurant in Tianjin, China, in 2012, the co-founder’s experience and dedication to excellence are evident in every aspect of the new Richmond establishment.
At the helm of the kitchen is Chef Allen, a seasoned professional with an impressive background. Having trained in sushi in Florida and worked at the Michelin-starred restaurant “Omakase” in San Francisco, Chef Allen is not only an expert in Japanese cuisine but also a “walking encyclopedia of fish.”
One of the highlights of the restaurant is its specialty in nigiri, sashimi, and simple Japanese home-style dishes.
Customers can expect a truly unique dining experience as they’re presented with a traditional Japanese fish box containing whole fish. Guests can then choose how they’d like their fish prepared – as nigiri or sashimi.
In the future, SYU Vancouver plans to expand its cooking styles of the whole fish to include shioyaki (salt grill), shoyuyaki (soy sauce grill), and even braised or boiled options.
As Chef Allen’s specialty lies in nigiri and sashimi, customers are guaranteed a top-notch experience.
The decision to open SYU Vancouver in the Richmond Oval area was strategic, catering to the high-end clientele that populates the neighbourhood. The location offers a quieter setting, preferred by their target customer base, while also providing easy access to Vancouver and the airport.
The combination of a serene atmosphere and excellent cuisine makes SYU Vancouver an ideal destination for an intimate high-end omakase experience.
